Realising the potential of synthetic biology for health

Tools

At present, there are few tools for engineering mammalian cells in a predictable manner. We will use the power of high throughput and combinatorial synthetic approaches to design new tools and technologies that will offer more sophisticated controls of cell behavior. This will provide us both deeper insight into the mechanisms of how cells behave and as means of engineering useful new functions into a wide range of host cells.

Examples of Tools:

  • Well characterized, cell-specific promoters
  • Safe harbors for stable genome insertions
  • Variably inducible promoters of differing strengths
  • Synthetic CRISPR and TAL effector libraries
  • Cell lines containing specific genome-location targeting sites
  • High-throughput synthetic cell transfection techniques
  • Drug-inducible promoters
