Realising the potential of synthetic biology for health

Our Vision

We are pioneering the development of the tools and technologies needed to realise the full potential of synthetic biology in mammalian systems. This will provide unprecedented insight into biological systems, underpin advances in human and animal health and wellbeing, and ultimately drive economic growth.

Welcome

Welcome to the UK Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology Research. Our aim is to pioneer the development of the underpinning tools and technologies needed to implement engineering principles and realise the full potential of synthetic biology in mammalian systems.

The BBSRC/EPSRC/MRC funded Centre builds on more than seven years of productive multidisciplinary research in Edinburgh in synthetic and systems biology, extending its reach to embrace our world-leading expertise in cell biology, epigenetics and stem cell biology, and in human and veterinary medicine. We have an ambitious plan.

Prof Susan Rosser, Centre Director

The UK Centre for Mammalian Synthetic Biology Research is funded by the Biological and Biotechnology Sciences Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Medical Research Council as part of its ‘Synthetic Biology for Growth’ programme.
